Antique 19th Century French Empire Mahogany Commode with Marble Top

A substantial 19th-century French Empire–style commode, crafted from richly figured mahogany with striking geometric veneer work and topped with a deep gRey marble slab veined in soft ivory tones. The façade is structured with clean architectural lines and accented by original gilt-bronze mounts, lending balance, warmth, and classic Empire symmetry to the piece.

The commode features four drawers arranged in two smaller upper drawers over two full-width lower drawers. Each drawer is adorned with original gilt-bronze ring pulls and decorative escutcheons. The upper left and lower drawers feature faux escutcheons, while the upper right drawer retains a functioning lock. Drawer construction is traditional, with solid wood interiors and visible age-consistent craftsmanship. The drawers open smoothly and offer generous storage.

The marble top shows light surface wear and two small knicks along the right edge, consistent with age and use. Condition notes include a split beneath the marble along the left side, as well as a vertical split running down the left side panel of the case. These structural separations are stable and typical of antique furniture of this age. Additional surface wear, patina, and minor imperfections are present throughout, all contributing to the piece’s authenticity and storied past rather than detracting from its presence.
