19th-Century French Gilt Bronze Rococo Chamberstick

Sale price$320.00

A richly ornamented 19th-century French gilt bronze chamberstick, designed in the Rococo style with scrolling foliage, shell motifs, and a delicately cast handle. Chambersticks, also called “go-to-bed” candlesticks, were an essential household item before the advent of electricity—made to be carried from room to room, their short stem and wide drip pan offering both function and beauty.

This example, cast in gilt bronze, showcases the lavish detail that made even everyday objects a display of artistry in 19th-century France. The pierced and scrolling design allows candlelight to play across its surface, adding to its atmospheric charm.

A true marriage of practicality and ornament, it is a small but striking relic of the candlelit age.
