Petite French Marquetry Commode with Hidden Bar Interior
Don’t let its demure façade fool you—this petite Louis XV–style commode has a secret. What appears to be a traditional five-drawer chest opens to reveal a mirrored mini-bar, complete with a brass galleried shelf for garnishes or glassware, and a drop-front serving tray for entertaining in true French fashion.
Crafted in France in the mid 20th century, this piece is a celebration of form and function. The exterior features intricate parquetry marquetry inlaid in a geometric pattern, framed by gilt bronze escutcheons and ormolu corner mounts, and raised on elegant cabriole legs with cast sabots.
The interior is lined with mirrors to create the illusion of space and sparkle, making it perfect for displaying crystal decanters or aperitif glasses. Whether styled as a nightstand, accent chest, or conversation-starting cocktail bar, this petite commode is a charmer with a story to tell.
Condition: Good vintage condition with minor age-appropriate wear, including a small chip to one corner of the top veneer, some surface scratching and small flaws to the backside of legs. Please see images for details.
