19th-Century Bronze Miniature of Napoleon Bonaparte on Plinth
Era & Origin:
Circa 1880 | France
Materials:
Cast bronze with blackened metal plinth
Details & History:
A finely cast miniature bronze of Napoleon Bonaparte, depicted in his classic stance — arms folded, head slightly bowed beneath his iconic bicorne hat. Resting atop its original stepped plinth, this small but commanding figure captures the enduring fascination with the Emperor that swept through 19th-century France.
Following Napoleon’s death in 1821, a wave of Napoleonic Revival objects emerged, honoring him as both military genius and symbol of national pride. Miniature bronzes such as this were often displayed on scholars’ desks or in curio cabinets as emblems of intellect, discipline, and leadership.
This particular example bears exquisite detail for its scale — from the sharp fold of his coat to the delicate articulation of the epaulettes. The contrast between the warm bronze figure and the darkened base lends the piece both gravitas and sculptural refinement.
Condition Notes:
Very good antique condition with light patina and wear consistent with age. Base sturdy and secure.

A sophisticated addition to a writing desk, library shelf, or gentleman’s study. Beautiful displayed atop antique books or paired with a globe or inkwell for a classically French vignette.
