Napoleon III–Style Marquetry Jardinière with Bronze Mounts
A beautifully architectural tabletop jardinière, this piece combines richly figured wood veneers with elaborate bronze accents. Its gently bowed body centers on a dark, swirling panel framed by contrasting bands, creating depth through the natural pattern of the wood.
A pierced metal gallery follows the upper rim, while sculptural mounts descend at the corners into decorative feet. Projecting side handles complete the balanced silhouette, bringing both ornament and definition to the warm wooden form.
The design belongs to the French Napoleon III tradition of decorative objects combining cabinetmaking with richly worked metal mounts. Jardinières allowed flowers and greenery to become part of the furnished interior, presented with the same care as a piece of fine furniture.
Beautiful as a dining-table centerpiece or on a console, this piece would hold an arrangement of faux florals or separately contained potted plants. Its figured veneer and bronze detail also give it a strong decorative presence displayed on its own.
