Antique Dutch Miniature Prayer Book Salve Regina with Tooled Leather Binding
A delicate and devotional treasure, this miniature Catholic prayer book titled Salve Regina offers a glimpse into 19th–early 20th century religious life in the Netherlands. Beautifully bound in rich brown leather with intricate gilt tooling in floral and geometric motifs, the book’s small scale made it ideal for personal devotion and portability.
The interior features Dutch text prayers and devotions, including morning and evening prayers, litanies, and hymns, printed in black and red ink for emphasis. The book was published by Zech en Zoon, a known ecclesiastical publisher active in Brakel-Le-Lombeek, and includes an illustration of the Virgin Mary. The gilded page edges and ornate borders elevate it as much more than a simple prayer book—it was meant as a cherished keepsake for the faithful.
Miniature prayer books like this were often given as gifts for First Communion, confirmation, or personal devotion, and they now stand as collectible religious artifacts for their craftsmanship, rarity, and connection to devotional traditions of the past.
