With its golden finish and dynamic radiating form, this timeless piece brings a wonderful sense of movement, elegance, and vintage glamour to any interior.

Sunburst and starburst mirrors have a fascinating history in European decorative arts, with their origins often associated with the elaborate sun imagery popularized during the reign of Louis XIV of France, famously known as the Sun King. The radiant sun became a symbol of power, beauty, and grandeur, appearing throughout French architecture, furnishings, and ornamental design.

During the mid-20th century, particularly throughout the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, these iconic mirrors experienced a remarkable revival. French and Italian designers embraced the starburst silhouette, combining classical inspiration with the bold, sculptural aesthetics of the modern era. Their dramatic forms and luminous finishes made them fashionable decorative accents in sophisticated European interiors.

This lovely example captures the enduring appeal of that design tradition, with its radiating gilt detailing creating a beautiful architectural statement. Whether displayed above an antique commode, incorporated into a collected gallery wall, or featured independently as a focal point, it offers the perfect balance of vintage character and timeless sophistication.

A wonderful decorative treasure that brings warmth, dimension, and a touch of mid-century European glamour into the home.
