Antique French Gilt Bronze Plaque – “Membre du Jury” Award Emblem

Sale price$145.00

This remarkable French gilt bronze plaque was once awarded to a distinguished jury member, most likely connected to an exhibition or official judging panel in the late 19th to early 20th century. The finely cast design features a heraldic shield bearing a ship under sail—an enduring symbol of Paris, referencing the city’s motto “Fluctuat nec mergitur” (“She is tossed by the waves but does not sink”). The shield is topped with a castellated crown and surrounded by laurel and oak branches, representing honor, victory, and strength.

The lower banner reads “Membre du Jury,” marking this as an emblem of distinction awarded to those serving in an official judging capacity. Cast in heavy gilt bronze with beautiful detail, it carries the patina and warmth of age, making it both historically significant and visually striking.
