Louis XVI Circular Frame with Ribbon & Foliate Crest

An elegant Louis XVI frame, this circular piece features a finely ornamented gold-tone surround crowned by a sculptural ribbon bow and leafy flourishes. Delicate beading outlines the opening, while the patterned outer border creates a beautifully balanced setting for a treasured portrait or miniature artwork.

The Louis XVI period, spanning the king’s reign from 1774 to 1792, marked an important chapter in French neoclassical design. Inspired by renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman art, decorative objects embraced symmetry, ordered forms, and carefully composed ornament.

Ribbons, foliage, and garlands softened this classical restraint, bringing naturalistic detail to furniture and intimate household accessories. This frame beautifully expresses that balance: its circular form provides a measured foundation, while the flowing bow and leafy crest introduce movement and delicacy.

Its petite proportions invite close appreciation of the ornamental details. Displayed among larger frames, it adds variation in scale; placed on a dressing table or writing desk, it creates an intimate focal point.

A lovely piece for preserving a meaningful likeness, this frame brings the enduring elegance of Louis XVI design into the home.
