Antique Key Hook with Portrait Medallion
This small but distinguished cast bronze hook combines practical design with historical portraiture. Cast in relief within an oval medallion, the profile depicts Sir Thomas More, the famed 16th-century English statesman, philosopher, and author. After his execution by King Henry VIII, More was canonized as a saint, and his portrait was often reproduced on decorative and utilitarian objects—not only as a symbol of protection but also as a reminder to stand up for what is right.
The medallion is framed by a beaded border and a decorative ribbon bow, lending it the appearance of a miniature framed plaque. Beneath extends a single hook, likely intended for holding keys, rosaries, or other small daily items. Its compact size and ornate face suggest it may have originally hung in a vestibule, study, or near a desk, blending daily utility with a sense of refinement.
