19th-Century French Bronze Chamberstick with Heraldic Handle

Sale price$225.00

A richly cast 19th-century French bronze chamberstick, adorned with a heraldic handle featuring twin lions and a central crest motif. Its tray base is finely patterned with crosshatch detailing, raised on a pedestal stem that once guided candlelight through quiet, fire-lit rooms.

Chambersticks—also called “go-to-bed” candlesticks—were designed for practicality in the pre-electric age, their short stems and broad drip pans offering ease of movement from room to room. This example speaks to that perfect French balance of form and function, where even the most utilitarian object became an artful statement.

Its warm patina and intricate detailing lend depth and texture to any vignette—whether resting upon a stack of antique books or illuminating a writing desk once more.
