Details & History:

This striking slant-front desk captures the grandeur of Belgian Baroque Revival craftsmanship. Its façade is adorned with decorative brass nailhead trim arranged in geometric and oval motifs, lending a sense of rhythm and sophistication to the warm oak surface. Beneath the fall-front writing surface, two drawers with original brass pulls provide practical storage, while the interior reveals neatly partitioned cubbies and a central drawer for correspondence and writing essentials.

The base is supported by dramatic barley twist legs connected with box stretchers, a hallmark of late 19th-century design, paired with scrolling hand-carved friezes that bring sculptural movement to the piece. Every element is finely executed, showing the influence of Flemish artistry.

Inside the desk, the original maker’s tag remains intact: Dujardin–Lammens, Rue St. Jean, Brussels. This atelier was well-regarded in the late 1800s for producing refined furniture rooted in historicist styles, supplying both Belgian households and the broader European market. Having a documented maker elevates the provenance of this desk, making it not only a functional piece but also a collectible with notable heritage.

Condition:

Excellent antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Rich patina to the oak, some surface wear consistent with use, but no structural issues. Original hardware and brass nailheads present. The lock and key remain in place, adding to the completeness of the piece.
