Decorative Marble Grape Cluster with Natural Wood Stem

A wonderfully tactile decorative accent, this grape cluster features polished dark marble fruits gathered beneath a substantial natural wooden stem. Pale veins and subtle variations move through the stone, giving each grape an individual character and lending depth to the richly colored bunch.

Decorative stone fruit belongs to a longstanding tradition of translating familiar natural forms into lasting objects. Grapes offer an especially appealing subject, combining rounded shapes with associations of harvest, hospitality, and abundance.

Similar grape clusters were produced in marble and alabaster during both the 19th and 20th centuries. Examples with natural wooden stems are frequently associated with Italian decorative stonework, although the country of manufacture has not been established for this piece.

The contrast of materials gives this example its particular charm. Smooth, weighty marble meets the irregular texture of the branch, balancing polished craftsmanship with the organic character of natural wood.

Although a 19th-century date is possible, the photographed form alone does not distinguish it from later examples. It is therefore presented without a firm antique date.

Beautiful placed in a shallow bowl, displayed on a kitchen shelf, or arranged atop a stack of books, this cluster brings sculptural interest and a rich natural palette to the home.
