19th-Century French Devotional Travel Set in Tooled Leather Case

Sale price$295.00

A rare and beautifully preserved 19th-century French devotional travel set, featuring three tooled leather pieces nestled within their original silk-lined presentation case. The central piece houses a gilded prayer book with red-edged pages, while the flanking compartments include a small rosary case (left) and a matching leather wallet or missal holder (right).

The craftsmanship throughout is exquisite — the leather is richly marbled and decorated with hand-tooled gilt corner motifs, each piece fitting snugly into its gathered silk compartments within the burlwood-patterned case. The prayer book’s interior pages are printed in French with delicate red and black typography and bear ecclesiastical seals, revealing its sacred origins.

This set would have belonged to a well-traveled or aristocratic individual in 19th-century France, serving as a portable altar of devotion — elegant, reverent, and entirely personal.
