Details & History:

This pocket-sized devotional book, Leidsman der Jeugdige Zielen (Guide for Young Souls), was created as a spiritual guide for youth, containing religious instruction, prayers, and devotional exercises for the “little ones of Jesus.” Printed in Dutch by the renowned Catholic publisher Brepols N.V. in Turnhout, Belgium, the book bears papal approval from Pope Pius X (1905) and an imprimatur dated May 28, 1928.

Brepols, established in the late 18th century, was one of the foremost religious publishers in Europe, entrusted by the Vatican with producing widely distributed Catholic texts. Books like this would have been used for daily devotion, catechesis, and guidance in living a life of piety. The gilt-tooled cover and compact format reflect its dual role as both a treasured keepsake and a portable spiritual companion.

Condition Notes:

Very good antique condition. Binding and gilt decoration remain intact with gentle wear to edges. Red page edges retain vibrancy. Interior pages are clean and legible with light toning appropriate for age.

Styling Suggestions:

A striking collectible for lovers of religious history, rare books, or devotional objects. Style on a writing desk, prayer corner, or under a glass cloche as part of a sacred-inspired vignette. Its petite scale and detailed binding also make it a layered accent on a bookshelf or table display.
