Black Lacquered Wood Riser / Salvage Base

A substantial black-painted wooden riser of scalloped, tray-like form with molded edges and remnants of gilt decoration along the rim. Originally the base of a larger object (clock, sculpture, or decorative stand), it has been repurposed as a handsome display riser.
Late-19th- to early-20th-century decorative wood bases of this type were common supports for clocks, bronzes, and table ornaments. The dense black finish and soft gold accents give it quiet elegance as a stand-alone surface for candles, perfume bottles, or small objects.
