Antique Hand Painted Heraldic Wooden Crest in Frame

Sale price$295.00

This striking heraldic painting, executed on panel, carries the grandeur and symbolism of European noble lineage. Dating to the 19th century, the work depicts a richly detailed coat of arms, centered by a bold lion rampant upon a cobalt shield — a symbol long associated with bravery, valor, and guardianship in heraldry.

Above the shield rise two fantastical crests:

  • To the left, a golden griffin with wings unfurled, representing strength, courage, and vigilance.
  • To the right, a dark blue eagle’s wing, crowned and bearing both a star and crescent, symbols of victory, divine guidance, and noble honor.

Each crest is surmounted by coronets, indicating aristocratic or noble status. Surrounding the central shield, flowing red banners bear Latin mottos, now softened with age, but once proclaiming the family’s guiding values and allegiances.

The piece would have originally served as a symbol of identity, authority, and heritage, possibly commissioned to commemorate marriage between two houses or to reinforce the prominence of a family line. Its compact scale suggests it may have been part of a heraldic study collection or kept within a private domestic interior rather than a public hall.
