19th-Century Glass Jardinière with Classical Figural Mounts

An elegant example of 19th-century decorative display, this glass jardinière features a gently shaped, elongated body supported within an ornate gold-tone metal framework. Classical draped figures and small childlike figures decorate the sides, while a central wreath tied with a ribbon gives the composition a graceful focal point.

Jardinières brought plants and flowers into furnished interiors through containers designed to be admired as part of the room. During the 19th century, makers produced examples in ceramic, glass, and metal, often combining practical planting or floral display with elaborate ornament.
