In the other, a red-coated huntsman raises a horn from the saddle of a dark horse. The two scenes share the same woodland palette, with flashes of scarlet drawing the eye to each rider.

The horses, hounds, and hunting horn place the pair in the tradition of European sporting art. The compositions capture different moments of the hunt, from the forward sweep of the riders and hounds to the pause of a horse lifting its foreleg as the horn sounds.

Broad gilt frames with scrolling relief and layered moldings give both paintings a substantial presence.
