Warm bronze tones highlight the delicate modeling of her features, while a turned red-and-white marble pedestal lends rich color and architectural presence.

Diane de Poitiers was a prominent French Renaissance noblewoman and the celebrated favorite of King Henry II. Closely associated with the Château d’Anet, she became an enduring subject in French art, her image evoking the beauty, refinement, and courtly splendor of the Renaissance. This bust captures that romantic tradition through its graceful expression and intricately arranged hair.

The reverse bears the name “Houdon,” a detail also found on comparable examples of this model. Its Renaissance-inspired presentation and bronze-and-marble construction are consistent with decorative casts produced during the 19th century, when historic portrait busts brought the atmosphere of European collections into domestic interiors.

Beautiful on a library shelf, mantel, or writing desk, this piece offers a compelling combination of sculptural detail, richly veined stone, and French historical character.

Details
* Subject: Diane de Poitiers
* Origin: French, attributed
* Period: Probably 19th century
* Materials: Bronze and red-and-white veined marble
* Mark: “Houdon” signature on the reverse
* Condition: Good Overall Condition
Measurements: 5.75" W x 5.5" D x 14.5" H

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0773/9549/3185/files/B6524ADB-0E8F-4190-A035-51D4E3E4AF70.png?v=1792028628
https://soulfedhome.com/products/antique-french-bronze-bust-of-diane-de-poitiers-on-a-veined-marble-pedestal-bearing-houdon-signature
